July 2024 saw me undertake a trip to the South of France and Italy. The purpose was to sketch, paint and get ideas for future work. There were a couple of highlights to the trip. The first, was an Exhibition of Turners work in the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco. Only Monaco can pull something like this together and it was spectacular! Focusing on how Turner used light, it was a masterclass. It showed how light can hugely affect a painting’s mood and style.
Secondly, and this was a bit of a pilgrimage for me, was a visit to Dolceacqua in Italy. This was the village Monet stopped. He painted the now famous bridge. He also painted the castle on his trip to the South of France in the early 20th Century.
I hope you enjoy some of the sketches!
