Well, currently in an ‘Inside two berth cabin’ in the bow on Level 5 about to snooze.
The Pont Aven left about an hour late at 9pm, but we got a cracking sunset leaving Plymouth as a result! I stayed on deck for the departure as I love seeing all the activity, it is incredible how a thing the size of this ship (Brittany Ferries flagship no less!) just glides out of dock into Plymouth Sound, past the break water and then off towards the Eddystone… avoiding it with any luck. We passed an anchored cruise ship in Plymouth Sound and they had a bit of a ‘parp off’ on the hooters as they passed each other.
A bit of an explore around the ship and there is all sorts going on. Live music, a piano bar, two restaurants…. And a whole host of people desperately lost looking for their cabins. I kept seeing the same people going round and round… probably get to bed just as the thing is docking.
Did a little sketching as we left of Drakes Island, but managed to cover myself and the sketchbook in ink so not hugely successful. A fellow passenger notified me I’d also got ink all over my nose…. That will teach me to try and fill up the pen on the fly. The sketch looks like everything exploded on it… which at some point probably did happen to Drakes Island so historically accurate…
After that I went down to the bar to sketch a few people but kept getting rumbled and some fierce glares, so had to work very quickly to avoid any fun and larks! A bit of a ‘loose’ sketch resulted! The thing I really loved about the bar was all the mad chair colours. Those who are seasick would be finished off if they walked in the bar-maybe a deliberate ploy?
Just wanted to write something to kick things off but I’m off and running!
Roscoff for breakfast tomorrow and then somehow workout how to get to Morlaix (hopefully a bus as the train does not run anymore- probably got stuck on an artichoke). Morlaix has a TGV station so we are plugged into the mainline from then on…
